EDUCATION AND SOME HURDLES -2
During the phase of
learning, it is important to keep track of what is being taught. Several youngsters tend to be inattentive and
not listening to the teacher. At the end of a session, if one recalls as to
what was transacted, possibly very vague /disjoint ideas appear in our mind. If
this type of our grasp is not properly corrected, more confusion arises with
reference to specific topics. It results in the opinion that the particular
teacher is not effective in imparting instructions. Is it real? It need not be.
Often, the learner ‘deviates’ from learning a lesson and later tries to
understand the critical facets of information. At that juncture, [s]he finds it
too hard to decipher the proper intricacy behind any formula or interpretation.
The remedy
In all such instances,
the simplest approach to get over the hurdle is to interact with the same
person who handles the topic or paper. The learner may be tempted to believe
that this teacher may not help much. It is basically incorrect. Any teacher
when approached for clarification would certainly try to present the critical
step in a far simpler way across the table than what [s]he does in a larger
class room. This way a certain level of
rapport would come by between the teacher and the learner, whereby any
assumptions between the two can get minimized /eliminated.
So, often the learner’s
unwillingness to seek clarifications at the very early stages of every step of
learning causes more damage by confusion. Merely because, the particular
person’s way of imparting information is not convenient to learner, the latter
should not conclude that the topic cannot be learned. It is well within one’s effort and reach to
calmly approach a teacher for help by way of clarification. At times a teacher
may advise the learner to come at a certain hour or place. If so, the learner
has to abide by the suggestion which in turn would trigger the sense of
responsibility in a teacher to justify the proposed session. Many teachers find
it easier to tender clear explanation through conversations [between 2-3
individuals] than to a larger gathering. Kindly make use of such simple methods
to get any item clarified on that day itself. Getting clarified within a matter
of hours helps proper grasp; after confusions mount in a mind, a variety of
explanations may be needed and clarity may be hard to come by.
Therefore, learning
involves both methods of grasping and some remedial steps –if need be.
Critical steps for
grasping
1 Try to get familiar
with a topic, before its taught [It helps to have some idea about the topic. ]
2 Pay full attention to
what a teacher says in a session. [It is the easiest way to understand a theme.
Several “otherwise intricate” statements appear clear after it is taught]
3 Avoid digression
while listening to a teacher [Digression is the most common pitfall that ruins
the natural advantage of classroom learning].
4 Always bear in mind –
any teacher wishes to teach well. Kindly co-operate by not attempting
intrusions while a teacher is engaged in teaching.
5 Any step /part not
clear to you, get it clarified by the same teacher on the same day [Old
confusions are not easy to resolve].
6 Always re-visit
topics periodically [It tones up memory and helps understanding].
