Solanum torvum [Tam: Sundaikkaai] -2
Fresh fruits of Solanum
torvum [Sundaikkaai] [per 100 gm] are reported to contain                        
Vitamins A,[12 mg] B,1
B6, C [130 mg] and Calcium [0.28mg occur in fair quantity in the fruits of
Turkey berry . Other important items Copper, Folic acid and Iron [24.5 mg]
Fibre [57.0 mg] besides protein and carbohydrate. 
A number of steroidal
items- Sapogenine, Solaspigenine occur; besides Triacontanol ,
Tetratriacontianic acid , Camposterol aew reported from S.torvum 
Parts of the plant are
used in treating fever, wounds and high blood pressure in  addition to its food value as a vegetable 
Fruit juice of S.torvum
is useful to alleviate anaemic problem due to its iron content and Folic acid.
Role of folate [folic acid] is quite complex in human physiology. 
Such is the magnitude
of the value of Solanum torvum , treated with no social status. Even in day –to
day life a tendency to dismiss someone as of no consequence people groan  கெடக்கறான் சுண்டக்காப்பய
– meaning tiny blob ‘turkey berry’. But, that cannot rob the fruit of its
value.
