 GENES and JEANS

On the face of it the topic may appear stupid. When we are ourselves stupid , what if the topic looks so? Be that as it may, in the last two decades plus, both the items are widely known among the general public. The question is -what do we really know of these? Probably not much; but, that has never come in the way of our trying to say something on these. The syndrome had spread so much that non-geneticist writers chose to cash in on the euphoria and started making a fortune. Reading those write-ups, several other persons started working on science fiction; thank God   they never claimed of ‘Scientific’ fiction. To have confined themselves to fiction, they left every one safe. Let us try our hand on the topic.

Though phonetically alike [G/ J] the two stand for the invisible and the visible stuffs- in that order. The latter is one’s choice and none has any choice over the former. Genes are hidden and jeans are meant for display, despite weeks of rugged use. People take delight of dirty/ soiled Jeans. Providentially we are not given to know of genes, in the sense that, they escape tampering by us. Have we ever bothered to know of our genes for their significance? Their significance is simply ourselves. Yes, what we are is what our genes are. Expanded- our appearance, our overall physique, skin colour, Hair –form shape, length curl etc etc., Our ‘everything’ is by the genes. Genes are the best samples of biologic democracy, as they are by the humans [forefathers], of the humans and for the humans. Despite our avaricious trend of not parting with anything, we can never hold our genes back as a personal possession. Unmindful of what one thinks, genes keep moving into the next generation in the most natural way and unfailingly reveal their source if checked! Genes that way have no affiliation. Today it may be yours; tomorrow it gets into someone else as a ‘karmic’ donation. [True BHAGAD GITA practitioners are these genes].The safe-guard is, none knows which genes [s]he gave to the children. Unless you give them you would have no children. We are irretrievably locked in this messy circle though everyone plays the game of delight. Without fail most people ACCUSE THEIR CHILDREN as idiots. Sir/ madam --their genes were from you—the parents. This would explain in large measure –the state of affairs. Some may also give their Jeans as an act of philanthropy- especially after some flood or earthquake. Nature has its own way of leveling up. In a way this leveling up happens in our life by combining some good genes and ‘not so good’ genes through wedlock [or is it a deadlock?]. It is this natural arrangement of pooling together of genes, that may result in irreparable congenital problems of poor brain development in children through ‘within the fold’ marriages. How wide this ‘fold’ extends is a million dollar question.

Anyone can disown the Jeans in his/her possession but not the Genes. Honestly, many do not know where ‘their genes’ are in their person. Our knowing or not knowing of the location of genes would not alter an iota of our personality. If there is something which works to the ultimate details, undoubtedly, those are the genes in any biological entity. They work to a pre-determined clock/ calendar abiding by the ‘in-built’ information for growth, development, day-to-day physiology and all biochemical responses –subject to the availability of right signals from the immediate environment. So, for genes to express themselves, necessary conditions from environment are necessary. Rather, the shaping of an individual is influenced by external factors like light, Sunshine, cold, day/night cycles and social setting constituting ‘rhythm’. Without rhythm, life processes tend to go astray.

Without or independent of genes many functions may suffer dislocation or dis-orientation due to disturbed rhythm. That is why and how, one gets to have activity, rest and entertainment for relaxation as a part of daily rhythm. Mere peripheral assessment of activity cannot help our ‘comprehension’ of genes. Any further information on ‘genes’ can be furnished if our readers are desirous of knowing the intricacies behind genes and their functions. I mean genuine information, far removed from those of science fiction. Certainly, genes are not what one observes in sketches given in Biology books.  Two of our blog readers are excellent intellectual sources on genes; if desired, we can get the necessary input from them for ‘general –scientific information’.
