EDUCATION AND SOME HURDLES -3

EDUCATION AND SOME HURDLES -3

 [Collective effort]

Before learning something, try to understand what the topic relates to. Try to recall if you have had some basic familiarity to the item. Even if not known, please consult a standard dictionary to know the general ambit of the topic. Get into your text book to see the information there in and see if you understand anything. Necessarily one may encounter much of less known information.

Pick out the terms and words unfamiliar to you. Keep a note of them, as a reference item for you to carefully follow them during a classroom session. By doing this you progressively develop the ‘art’ of ‘preparing’ one’s mind for the process of learning. The strategy is to ‘develop’ some kind of familiarity to an item by a mere ‘physical perception’ of the terms.

Over a time, the learner gets to have an idea of how several terms in vogue are logically connected and that it is wrong to imagine that terms are meant to make sound. As one progresses into higher levels of learning, the traditions behind technical terminology reveal a certain precision that may not otherwise be possible.

In every effort of learning, the inadequacy of a learner arises from his/her poor grasp of the fundamentals and the critical implications of terms. Without taking a firm grip of the terms/ terminology, the subject would prove menacingly disturbing the leaner’s ability to grasp,

S0, in any form it is ultimately the ‘meaning’ that comes to the rescue   of a learner—be it common language or one of technical value.

One’s ability to grasp a thing requires a clear understanding of what it is. In explaining the efforts behind such processes, it is vital to make use of ‘collective effort’. By collective effort it is suggested that the learner begins his/her part of “trying to understand”. Secondly [s]he keenly listens to the teacher as the latter provides details relevant to the knowledge domain.

Still if the learner faces hurdles in grasping, [s]he should not hesitate to seek greater clarification from the person who taught the area or topic. Any number of seeking clarifications is a welcome trend in that, the teacher feels happy and obliged to shape the learner’s learning profile to better methods of understanding a theme.

Collective effort is a healthy sign of keenness to learn.
