Oh Language ANOTHER FACET-2
Quotes-2 John Milton
Dear Viewers,
Mr. Ashok
[Parthasarathy] had expressed his appreciation for the items discussed under
the previous edition of ‘Quotes’. Also, he has placed a request for an item on ‘Propositions’.
Though I am not too inquisitive, I guess, Mr. Ashok has sought a write-up on
PREPOSITIONS’.
Apparently, some interest
seems to rule the minds of our viewers because [on a global scale] there is a
perceptible rise of viewers in terms of number and a greater response does show
up. Still, the effort and effect stand at the ends of the spectrum with a heavy
justification for minimizing the strain, with dwindling enthusiasm. This, I had
to explain in rather plain terms of ‘admitting’ my inadequacy and
non-professional efforts from an untrained mind. I have no reasons to hide
anything, as the whole exercise is of ‘academic value’. My
good friend Dr. Kannan took pains to encourage me ‘saying that “you seem to
rate yourself low and that one need not have to place self at the low end”. In
his affection for me he tried to make me cheerful. I am thankful for his effort
in trying to strengthen my effort.
Nonetheless, there is no ground to think anything high of myself, that
too after a long stretch of listless span
Leaving aside such things, I would request our
viewers to revisit blog pages because some viewers respond a couple of days
after the date of ‘release’ of blog. Once visited, viewers avoid revisits.
Instead if we visit blogs a second or third time in 3 or 4 days, new responses
can be found. Responses are integral to any topic as they too supplement
something. That way revisits are worthy.
Now on to the day’s “QUOTES”
aspect
“He
who reigns within himself and rules passions, desires and fears is more than a
king”
The spirit of this
utterance is “a person is driven by desires, emotions and anxiety; all these
drive the person to ‘do’ things –good or bad. Once a person exercises
determination to regulate the emotions [s]he does not lend self to temptations
and stays dignified. While a king has power to control others by authority, one
who controls self is more than a king as the latter achieves by restraint of
mind.
The
mind is its own place and in itself can make hell of Heaven and Heaven of hell.
The ‘quote’ observes
“hell of heaven and heaven of hell”, implying that each contains the other.
Stated in a different form, ‘hell and heaven’ are in a common frame or entity
and that it is one’s mind, that reads either [perception of ‘hell’ or ‘heaven’
is merely how one reads it].
There
is nothing that making men rich and strong but that which they carry inside
them. True wealth is of the heart, not of the hand
The spirit of the quote
specifies the value of values as opposed to that of the materialistic value. It
clarifies as to ‘what is richness’. Richness is not money [not of hand] but
qualities –‘peace of mind, empathy, affection and gratitude [wealth of the
heart].
Every
cloud has a silver lining
A very common utterance
[Every cloud has a silver lining] that it seems to have lost its place for a
‘quote’. Here ‘cloud’ stands for dark , unclear , confusing phase and ‘silver
lining’ indicates bright clear readable prospect that means that there is
always hope even in despair.
The
end of all learning is to know God, and out of that knowledge to love and
imitate him
This ‘quote’ indicates
the true worth of education in understanding the ultimate [God] and try to
reflect HIS character of being considerate and emulating those qualities of
HIS’
Hard
are the ways of truth and rough to walk
This utterance suggests
that ‘leading a life of honesty, righteousness and authenticity is quite
challenging. [The path is rough and hard and requires firm adherence to
principles of upright living.
I again request viewers
to respond in the reply column at the end of the blog. Also, make it a habit to
re-visit the blog page 2 or 3 times in the subsequent days to note late
responses. I hope my suggestion is clear.
Regards
To continue………
