Oh Language ANOTHER FACET-4
Quotes-4 John Milton
As ever QUOTES hold a
variety reasons to interest the readers. It is the way that a quote is
paraphrased, makes it far more appealing and incisive that it kindles awe and
respect from readers of any generation. That way quotes are simple in phrase
but complex in the spirit of the message.
Death is the golden key that opens the palace
of eternity.
This seemingly simple quote is ‘several statements’ in one.
Yes, it attempts to connect disparate
places, time frames and politely touches upon the ephemeral [worldly
life] and the eternal [Heavenly bliss].
It can be explained thus: Two distinct domains in human life
are the earth and the heaven. Earth is plagued by greed, material desires and
restlessness; contrarily, Heaven the other world is Peaceful, tranquil and
contended. To shift from the earthly bonds into heaven the route is ‘DEATH’ .So,
death is the key to open the gates to eternal peace.
Apt words have power to suage the tumors of a
troubled mind.
The above quote is sufficiently self explanatory; it plainly
states that language is a medium that traverses the mind. If so it delivers
emotional message. So , appropriate words can soothe mind and play a role of
comforting/ consoling a disturbed mind.
He who destroys a good book kills reason
itself.
The quote is a reference to the act of control or censorship
resorted to by governments in the name of ‘restricting’ mindless criticism.
Poet Milton has expressed the opinion that books are not dead printed pages.
They have lived a life and continue to live for several lives that learn from
such works. Attempts to curb opinion, by
destroying books is simply causing death to the very process of thinking and
contemplating.
This is servitude, To serve the unwise.
This quote laments over ‘imposed slavery’. In defining the
cruelty, Milton suggests that to force someone to obey or follow or work for
someone, who is foolish , ignorant or morally inferior is the ultimate form of
slavery. [ To command someone to serve his/ her
interests, the commander has to
be wise and deserving].
Good the more communicated, more abundant grows
This quote has a hidden message. It clearly demarcates
the value of human life, like love, affection, knowledge, joy and that of
material elements –wealth, property and so on. Unlike material wealth, sharing
of human values helps their amplification –meaning that shared emotions grow
bigger and faster,
