LAWYER, ATTORNEY, SOLICITOR, BARRISTER, ADVOCATE, COUNSEL, APOSTLE
The
day’s episode attempts to cite a range of words serving ‘more or less’ the same
situation –may be under different dispensations. I do not dare calling them
synonyms outright, for, English being what it is, in the end it may prove a
holocaust of a linguistic disaster, putting the elegance of the great language
to jeopardy.
Lawyer [n]
By definition a Lawyer is one who tenders advice to
people about the law and speaks for them in a court
I want to consult my lawyer before I say
anything.
ATTORNEY [N] a person who has the legal right to act for someone else:
The term refers to ‘a lawyer’ and there are
different roles among attorneys
a defence attorney] one who speaks for the administration
An attorney for the plaintiff
= one who speaks for the plaintiff [n] =one who has lodged a complaint against
someone or office or agency
civil /criminal attorney
respectively fighting civil or criminal litigation.
letter of attorney is not
a letter from an attorney; it is a legal document that gives the right of
handling issues relating some firm or property on behalf of the rightful owner
of such title
SOLICITOR [n]
Solicitor is an official in a local government
and deals with legal matters
Solicitor is a type or category of lawyer in
Australia/ United Kingdom who is officially authorized to prepare cases and
tender advice on legal aspects and can represent people in lower courts.
BARRISTER [n]
A category of lawyer in some countries, Australia,
United kingdom; can provide specialized legal advice and can argue cases in
both lower and higher courts.
Advocate [v]
As a verb, the term ‘advocate’ refers to the act of
lending support to some idea or process of executing something.
Advocate [n]
As a noun, ‘advocate’ refers to a ‘lawyer’ who
defends or speaks for someone in a court of law.
COUNSEL [V]
It is a special service of providing solutions to
problems –social or personal

APOSTLE
[n] = Someone who provides strong support to a social belief or political move.

I think the terms Barrister and apostle are not in vogue in IIndia.
