Communication:

 Communication:

Achieving clarity

Clarity is the most important element that any one craves for. Several issues remain unresolved for want of clarity. Stated in simple terms, it remains elusive for many because they do not accord the right value for aspects of conversation /communication. Basically, some sort of casual approach to matters of communication prevails in India. A degree of ‘taking for granted’ occurs as a common practice at most levels of human interaction. Most of these ‘inadequacies’ in our transactions, stay on the strength of ‘numerical frequency’. Strictly, greater prevalence does not merit acceptance, since all ‘usages’ must be based on the legal sanction ensuring the precision and acceptability to be conceived by the natives of that language. This brings us to the core of ‘What is right or wrong’. Much of it requires and deserves serious attention to the process of appropriate communication.

Precision in communication:

The idea of precision can never be alien to any process of human effort. Precision holds value to all processes, products and purposes. If so, its value to the semantic domain of communication cannot just be small. If one wishes to be ‘pleasant and purposeful’, [s]he needs to develop this tool of accuracy through vocabulary. Literally every kind of work requires precision; its desirability is of the highest order among teachers and legal experts who have to strive hard to expound an idea in the least time.  The process of communication does not stop with making a statement. It goes far beyond to the realm of ‘convincing’ the listener. When the act of ‘convincing’ takes the least time the presentation appears more communicative and less fatiguing. Should the argument demand an unduly long time, it ceases to enforce rapt attention and also makes a negative impact. The negative impact referred to pertains to the widening gap between the speaker and the listener. Intriguingly any gap that manages to arise keeps amplifying to a point of no return. Obviously, it is the speaker who fails to sustain balance and tempo through a session.

After all, the source of communication is the speaker and [s]he is the one pursuing an idea. So, the listener is merely a recipient. The link between the speaker and listener is the continuity in thought. It may fail if the speaker does not take the right care for smooth cascading of ideas. Expression sustains both the thought and a smooth flow. When these two complements stay in a steady cycle, listener keeps pace with the speaker. It implies that the speaker leads the event. Therefore speakers are obliged to safeguard the spirit of listening without letting digression to creep in. Another dimension of sustaining the tempo relates to the right play of words. If the tempo is poor, listeners do not toil beyond a point to understand the speaker. Now, the speaker inadvertently loses grip of the situation while [s]he is still in the process of conveying an idea. Therefore, communication is an act of precision and is not helped by any acting [pretending].
