LEARNER ETHICS
People are happy to
‘read’ sermons to teachers; but are not democratic enough to review the status
of ‘the ideal’ as against that ‘being obtained’ among the learners.
Learners have to
develop the skill and practice of ‘introspection’. How often learners are aware
of the essential equipment needed to be a successful learner and the ‘gap’
standing between the equipment and all other wherewithal in acquisition of
mental calibre during the formative phase of a learner.
Stay informed
Learners are basically
of two versions
1 Early blast off
version. and 2. Late /Slow bloomers. On an average the intense peaking of either
phase may last for 8-10 years. To draw an analogy the process of learning is
much like partaking in a race. In a long track race, early speedster tends to
lose steam when the ‘killer instinct’ has to be helped by stamina - the
physical attribute.
A slow starter sustains
both the mental drive [killer-instinct] and stamina [the physical endowment]. A
slow starter progressively picks up speed and manages to bring off a decisive
win in a grand display of talent.
So, boys and girls who
are not among the top scorers in lower
classes, need not lose your spirit to learn on the mere ‘yardstick’ of
scores. After all scores are pointers
to one’s skill of answering questions’ in a form or format. It is no reliable
index of ‘learning’ or ‘knowledge’.
So, now you may note
how some turn aggressive learners in college days while some retard after
initial ‘promise’ in school phase.
Where do learners err?
In your early phase of
learning, as a beginner you ought to gather 3 basic skills – as a part of
logical progress. 1. Learn words, their spelling and meaning. 2 always
carefully listen to the teacher [no other mode of educating can serve any
better than a teacher. [S]he is a live educator to instantly grasp your need
and offer right guidance.
Ignoring this vital
support from a teacher many learners get distracted by irrelevant
considerations of his/her looks, revealing economy-starved status of mobility
on low cost transport modes , bi-cycle /public transport system and so on.
These are absolutely
irrelevant to our ‘learning’. These only serve to motivate our digressions.
Digressions easily bring off disruption to continuity of thought.
With disruption and
digression ruling our mind, our composure to stay steady and devote attention
to learning and the final effort ‘recapitulation’ get weakened.
3 Recapitulation-the
third step is a simple but powerful tool to the process of tuning the mind and
memory as the repertoire and retriever respectively.
How to stave off such
exigencies in learner’s life calls for some patient review.
