MAKE LEARNING –A PLEASURE -2
Every teacher should impress upon wards that anything can be learned,
provided the learner is attentive during sessions of learning. Momentary loss
of continuity during such learning sessions can ruin the ability to comprehend
because of lacunae in certain domains of a topic. So, sustaining the
‘all-too-essential continuity’ is a basic need for learners; it is best done by avoiding digression.
Digression begins from ‘diverted attention’. So, learners must avoid looking
elsewhere during a session of learning.
At the same time, it is profitable to understand that avoidance of
digression can be largely helped by seamless presentation of facts by teachers.
If a teacher fails to sustain articulate flow, the recipients are tempted to
turn elsewhere; invariably causing mental disruption and when the ward mentally
re-enters the session, [s]he finds a gap ‘not easy to bridge’.
Now the ward seeks clarification from fellow members seated nearby
causing disruption to those in proximity. It turns out to be a ripple in water,
expanding outward slowly spreading the tentacle of disruption. Teachers
desirous of being rated ‘the best’ must develop the skills of coherent
presentation, leaving no room for doubts/disruptions in learner-minds.
The best bet strategy of sustaining uniform tempo through a session of
teaching is by employing certain mechanics that help most learners to
comprehend any idea without much exertion on their part.
Usually, it goes by the nomenclature ’paraphrasing’. Any idea can be paraphrased, as to make it
simpler for more persons to understand. It means that, more students ‘catch up’ with
the teacher and avoid getting digressed. This way the teacher wins more minds
by striving to reach them. [Mind you, it is a mind game!]
