COMPETENCE - IS IT A GIFT?

COMPETENCE - IS IT A GIFT?

Too much has been said and heard of it, but little has been understood by the learner-stage youth. There is a degree of reluctance to patiently gather, assemble and deeply contemplate the facets of competence to shape one’s self to develop the components that matter in ‘competence’.

Ultimately, competence is simply the ability to fit into a ‘framework’ that determines the efficacy of a person’s ability to handle a situation. If so, competence is also role-specific and in a given situation a person may suddenly prove competent much to the surprise of his/ her colleagues.

However, a given person is widely looked upon for functional skill from a general perception that [s]he knows things clearly and would fill the need in the most elegant way. Such general ascriptions owe themselves to the general trends of working by any individual. In plain terms it is just how colleagues in an organization perceive the work skills of anyone.

Why many get convinced of the abilities of a few individuals?

On an average many choose to stay silent or speak in polite whispers while discussing matters of technical value –be it administrative or operational processes behind some ‘product generation’.  On such occasions, persons who have a clear perception tend to speak and speak clearly too. The confidence born out of clarity also exhibits conviction.

Confidence, conviction and clarity are interrelated and they try to come to the fore when the place and purpose are conducive. Together these ‘fortify’ the image of competence that a person manages to depict.

Yet, it is oral exposition of an idea that draws the attention of many and permits each one of them to ‘develop’ an idea of the work skills of the person.

So, friends –at no stage in life, can we ignore the communication skill for its sheer power of ‘capturing minds’ –an act that many long for.

Competence –thus is a blend of understanding, perceiving the right requirements, presenting the idea in coherence and performing to perfection. Most of it can be acquired by mental training and physical training of limbs-of course not to forget the word power articulation.                                                                                                   *****                                     *****                                              *****
