Oh Language

 Oh Language             ANOTHER FACET-5

Hopefully, our viewers sustain the enthusiasm to spend time over the ‘Quotes’ that have been presented through blog posting on Sundays. Without being too inquisitive or ‘take for granted’ attitude this column is presented and at least a handful seems to evince interest. That is the scale of participation.

As has the trend been, there is a progressive decline in the number of respondents as also, the insight there in. Most of the respondents  respect the formality of ‘responding’.  I thank those who respond despite their other priorities.

Nothing profits more than self-esteem, grounded on what is just and right.

It is a quote from ‘Paradise lost’. The suggestion is to understand the value of morality as a foundation for observing ‘just and fair’ habits that alone can ensure one’s self esteem.[ The seemingly rich praise by others  need not confer esteem on to anyone]

Fame is the last infirmity of the human mind.

Though said in a few words, the statement is rather powerful.  The quote tells that humans have a deep-liking for ‘praise’ / accolade. This is a weakness of the mind Even,  persons –intelligent, virtuous and disciplined have this infirmity of mind

Virtue that wavers is not virtue.

Virtue is good moral quality. If that were to waver, it would cease to be a virtue. In other words, the virtuous would never give in to temptations. Any wavering on this is not virtuous.

There is no truth sure enough to justify persecution

This quote suggests that no faith or ideology or doctrine is undeniably absolute ; So, it cannot justify harming or killing ‘others’.

Time is the subtle thief of youth

The quote reads simple and plain. It means, time slowly but clearly robs our youth. It suggests that well before one manages to achieve one’s aim, stages of youth are gone. [Time moves faster than, what it appears to be].
