The present compilation
of Shakespearean quotes relate to ‘Beauty’. However, most quotes of the day
associate beauty with women. So, these quotes imply more than what meets our
judgment.
“For
where is any author in this world, Teaches such beauty as woman’s eye?”
Though ‘beauty’ can be
defined in terms-subjective, the eyes of women make us understand ‘beauty’ in
far more clear a perception –a genuine experience [of what beauty is] .
“Beauty
lies with kindness”
Quite a few ideas are
embedded in this quote that reads so simple on the face of it. There are two
facets in every human –be it man or woman. Either has the physical structure
[manifest in appearance] and another –the mental frame that shares human
emotions to varied degrees irrespective of the exterior form [that constitutes
the appearance/look behind ‘beauty’. So, the suggestion is ‘beauty’ is not in
looks; it is the humane touch of ‘kindness’ conferring genuine beauty to the
kind minded. Also, the physical would wither and lose appeal while the kindness
of a person would be remembered by all.
So, “Beauty lies with
kindness”
“Beauty
is bought by the judgment of the eye”
The above quote of
Shakespeare is the foundation for the later expression ‘Beauty is in the eyes
of the beholder’ Another brilliant
suggestion that beauty is a perception [subjective] so, how does one view
something truly means the most; or, what appeals for beauty to someone may not
at all be viewed the same by another. So, beauty is a matter of judgment by a
viewer.
“She is beautiful therefore to be wooed: she
is a woman therefore to be won”
This quote means more
than one thing at a time. It refers to two facets of women -1] an object of
curious attraction for men [a temptation for ‘woooing’ a woman], 2] It
implies that many men may try to win her ‘love’ however only if she is convinced of someone’s affection, she
could be won. Attempts of winning a woman is more by winning her ‘trust’.
“Beauty
itself doth of itself persuade the eyes of men without an orator”
‘An elegant quote which
portrays the idea that any good product would sell itself without any
aggressive ‘marketing’ [ sale effort or oratory]. A person of beauty stands in
gaze even without any preaching or ‘promotion’
