ENGLISH – 6
A cluster of words given under seem to be related although in a strict sense they may imply a thing or two which may conform to our opinion but do not fully endorse the same. The items chosen are:
INCLINATION, DESIRE, URGE, BANDWAGON, EUPHORIA.
Of these the first
three stand apart, while the other two look different from the previous ones.
INCLINATION [noun]
By definition
“INCLINATION” refers to a person’s preference of something to eat or some act
to express self through speech or writing or by action. It is a case of
according a high priority to something. It implies that there are or could be
some lesser preferences too.
DESIRE [verb]
The term expresses a
strong feeling like ‘I need this’. It could be some feeling lasting for quite a
time or that has sprung up now. Desiring something may not imply our deserving
it. So, especially for ‘possession’ of something better- the deserving alone
desire to avoid the risk of ‘non-accomplishment/ non compliance of
requirements.
URGE [n/v]
Urge can be a noun or
verb –in the true context of usage. .
In its ‘noun’ form
“URGE” refers to a very strong wish or longing for something which is
impossible to tide over or control.
When employed as a
‘verb’, “URGE” refers to the act of insisting upon or persuasion of someone to perform
or carry out some work for a specific effect advantageous to all or to someone.
EUPHORIA [noun]
Euphoria is a reference
to a state of happiness and pride that transcends limits of proportion like how
far to cherish a thing in proportion to the scale of success. It is a disproportionate
joyous behaviour [ Celebrating something far more than what is acceptable or
reasonable]. It can be something done by one or many persons .
BANDWAGON [noun]
A state of social
behaviour , driving people to follow or tow a line as a fashionable approach to
‘success’ in utter disregard to suitability or relevance to self. Unlike the
previous three terms discussed, that relate to attitude of individuals,
BANDWAGON relates a large section of the
people cutting across barriers of wealth / language /gender etc. If someone
says only “space research” holds promise for future , a large chunk of the
population queues up before such research stations seeking a place for their ward
irrespective of suitability/ desirability.
