 Well, young people set their eyes on a career, looking for dividends and popularity together. That way, a career in writing ‘appears’ lucrative. But, the harsh reality is that to break ground as a writer of ‘substance’ punctuated by truth-soaked satire, it would be a herculean exercise to say the least. Kindly consider the scale of competition and the degree of counter currents in industries of varied description, among which writing is one and is no different.

 In simple terms, writers are not truly independent until at least they command unbridled readership by their immaculate predictions of significance.-economic or political or geopolitical in precision.

It boils down to the fact that print houses choose to provide space for freelancers-enjoying wide readership. To hit that point of ‘sought after status’, is no mean feat.

Well before that, many sink to the oblivion for want of a platform to present one’s view as preferred. 

Our scenario is rich in Godfathers and demigods whose nod is the sole determinant on matters of choice, be it for a writer or an editor or similar other slots in publication business.

So, in the final reckoning, any aspirant [writer/ editor/ sub editor or even sub-sub editor] chances of entry hinge on how pleasing is the applicant to the top brass running the activity.

In a way, writers get conditioned by the vicissitudes of administrative climate prevalent in the work place. Seldom can one find the most conducive setting that permits ‘freelance’ in its true sense.

Though bitter , it is true that writers stay in the confines of the ethos of the place of work, lest they should choose to switch profession –not free from similar fate.
