LEARNER ETHICS-2
As a corollary to what
has been said so far on the topic, learners must try to extricate from the
‘inattentive’ attitude in classrooms. Whatever be your preference about a
teacher individual, kindly consider these facts.
1 The person [teacher]
is senior to you in age and familiarity to the subject than what you presume to
know.
2 That some teachers
are prone to get distracted by student behaviour through a session of teaching.
is not an unconditional license for
children/boys to distract the teacher.
3 There are teachers
who can handle such unruly members by the scruffs of their necks and spell
doom; would you dare trying your pranks with them. Is it not cowardice to
challenge the timid?
4 There could be
several reasons for ineffective performance of a teacher. As a teacher I feel,
distractions from learners is a dominant determinant.
5 To make you perceive
the gravity of the issue please introspect
A] Can you keep your classmates in place and
deliver a topic? After all they are your peers and are more obliged to tow your
line by sheer familiarity of friendship.
B] Can you safely
assume that your intimate friends would not ‘intimidate’ you when you take the
role of a teacher? They would be too glad to make the best of the occasion to
unnerve you.
C] What safeguards
would keep you shielded from such ‘disturbing trends’?
All the preceding
facets are under the common umbrella of human relations. When a learner chooses
to throw scant concern for a person’s earnest efforts to ‘communicate’, how the
process gets ruined is your daily experience. Still, if you deem it fit to
re-enact it at your convenience, the teacher is justified in his casual
attitude and all those who disturb transaction are fully rewarded with what
they deserve.
Learners, please learn how
to learn, well before you try dominating the numerically poor teacher. Also,
carefully consider as to what holds you back from such casual approaches toward
a powerful teacher. You perceive of unforeseen consequences and stay quiet with
them. So, when under threat the learners get conditioned to silence. Is it
right to disturb the timid while trembling with fear elsewhere?
Allowing a teacher to
teach is the first basic component of learner Ethics.
Ethics is a prime
requisite anywhere on either side of the podium/fence. After all every teacher
attempts to make you gather something; if it is an item of entertainment for
you, be sure –you are the loser –whatever your merits.
