of quotes relate to ‘Women’. Shakespeare’s repertoire is beyond any common
man’s abilities of grasp/comprehension. But, if one devotes time to decipher
the playwright’s word play, it would just be ‘all delight- personified’, for
his incisive utterances stand eternal models to any learner.
On Women
“Women may fall when there is no strength in men”
The quote actually pegs
significance on to men’s adherence to values; it means if men are fickle-minded
, then women cannot place trust on them and would come to the freedom to falter
instead of relying on the unreliable men/man.
“Men’s
vows are women’s traitors”
This is another quote
that defines the quality of ‘love’ built on reliable loyalty. Should a man
break his promise [of loyalty] women get to have a natural thought that makes
the man look a traitor [for, he chooses to subvert his own conscience].
‘Frailty
thy name is woman”
Most critics opine that
this quote is not Shakespeare’s opinion on women. This utterance is ascribed to
Hamlet the character that tries to describe his mother. Frailty or being weak
is not a general attribute; it may rather suit certain women under specific
circumstances.
‘Dispute
not with her; she is lunatic’
This statement implies
that there is no sense in arguing with those who are crazy and not willing to
understand.
“Two
women placed together makes cold weather”
The quote clarify that
two women in proximity may not get along well until a man comes to bridge them.
Left to themselves, women tend to reveal cold looks bordering on hatred except
when calmed down by a man.
